Alain Delambre is a 57-year-old former HR executive, drained by four years of hopeless unemployment.
All he is offered are small, demoralizing jobs. He has reached his very lowest ebb, and can see no way out.
So when a major company finally invites him to an interview, Alain Delambre is ready to do anything, borrow money, shame his wife and his daughters and even participate in the ultimate recruitment test: a role-playing game that involves hostage-taking.
Alain Delambre commits body and soul in this struggle to regain his dignity.
But if he suddenly realised that the dice had been loaded against him from the start, his fury would be limitless.
And what began as a role-play game could quickly become a bloodbath.
I received an eARC of Inhuman Resources via Netgalley a while ago, I requested this title based on my enjoyment of Lemaitre’s detective series – Alex/Irene/Camille. I diligently made notes throughout reading and was sure to be posting my review on time to schedule.
Even now, months later, I can’t bring myself to properly discuss what I consider to be an absolute train wreck of a novel. Instead I will leave you with my bullet points, make of them what you will! Continue reading “Book Review; Inhuman Resources- Pierre Lemaitre”
Two consecutive wrap-ups? I’m as surprised as you are! Here’s what I got up to last month..
October is my FAVOURITE month of the year. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not huge on Halloween as a holiday. I don’t decorate the house, I’m allergic to raw pumpkin and my years of stumbling home drunk in a slutty witch costume are long dead.
No, I love October for the scary vibes! The colder days and darker nights are perfect for reading and watching all the new horror releases. Continue reading “October Wrap-up & Book Haul”

*I was provided an eARC via Netgalley for my review of this title.
Isabel’s life seemed perfect. Successful business, beautiful house, adoring husband. And then she was dead.
For four years Jessica has never doubted that her sister Isabel’s death was an accident. But when Jessica’s young daughter seems to know long-forgotten details about her aunt’s past, Jessica can’t shake the feeling that there’s a more sinister truth behind the tragedy.
As Jessica unearths disturbing revelations about her sister, and about the people she loved and trusted most, it becomes clear Isabel’s life was less than perfect and that Jessica’s might also be at risk.
Did someone murder Isabel? Are they now after Jessica and her family? The key seems to lie in the hands of a child. Can Isabel reveal the truth from beyond the grave, or is the answer closer to home? Continue reading “ARC Review: In Her Shadow- Mark Edwards”
Book hauls, confessions and what I read in September
Newsflash! I am a lazy blogger. I may not seem it but that’s only thanks to the wonder of a good schedule. Most of the posts you’ll see on An Average Life were written weeks or sometimes months before they are published. I’m not sure I’ve ever written and posted on the same day, I simply cannot be trusted to finish what I start!
Now I love blog hopping around wrap-up posts, WWWs, Book hauls and the like. Every time I read these I think- I should do this- and I neeeever get around to it.
Well this month I have! I’d love to say I’ll do it regularly but I know damn well I won’t. So for my first ever wrap-up, read on to find out about my Average Life in September.. Continue reading “September Wrap-up & Book Haul”
