The Boneless Mercies- April Genevieve Tucholke
Release Date: 4th October 2018
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
They called us the Mercies, or sometimes the Boneless Mercies. They said we were shadows, ghosts, and if you touched our skin we dissolved into smoke …
Frey, Ovie, Juniper, and Runa are Boneless Mercies – death-traders, hired to kill quickly, quietly and mercifully. It is a job for women, and women only. Men will not do this sad, dark work. Frey has no family, no home, no fortune, and yet her blood sings a song of glory. So when she hears of a monster slaughtering men, women, and children in a northern jarldom, she decides this is the Mercies’ one chance to change their fate.
But glory comes at a price …
I’ve read many a high rated review of this book, among the descriptions I kept seeing ‘feminist Beowulf’ and ‘strong female leads’. Yep, count me in!

Book hauls, confessions and what I read in September
Newsflash! I am a lazy blogger. I may not seem it but that’s only thanks to the wonder of a good schedule. Most of the posts you’ll see on An Average Life were written weeks or sometimes months before they are published. I’m not sure I’ve ever written and posted on the same day, I simply cannot be trusted to finish what I start!
Now I love blog hopping around wrap-up posts, WWWs, Book hauls and the like. Every time I read these I think- I should do this- and I neeeever get around to it.
Well this month I have! I’d love to say I’ll do it regularly but I know damn well I won’t. So for my first ever wrap-up, read on to find out about my Average Life in September.. Continue reading “September Wrap-up & Book Haul”
Check out my Books In The Freezer Readathon TBR!
It’s finally October! Horror lovers rejoice!
Of course I couldn’t pick just one reading challenge for this month, with so many fantastic halloween/genre based options it was just too difficult! I’ve managed to narrow my choices down to 3 definite attempts though Books In The Freezer was never in question, I HAD to take this on. Continue reading “Books In The Freezer Readathon TBR”
I’ve been homing in on the 20 Questions Tag whenever I blog hop lately. I’ve not been able to trace it to the original poster but HUGE THUMBS UP to whoever they may be!
For me this is a perfect little summary of things I like to learn about a book blogger.
So naturally I’ve answered them myself too.
Read on to find out more about my bookish side and map our common ground…

Today I want to discuss how we rate books. I’m taking a different approach in my reviews, find out why..
Whilst I like to see others review books based on a star rating I have a different method myself. I will star rate for a short n sweet tweet but for my blog I use a little system I call ‘Roxanne’s Reactions’, Let me explain why..
