How To- Prepare For An Interview

Maximize your chances of successfully gaining the employment you seek.

Interviewing is one of the many responsibilities in my role as a manager. In my career thus far as an applicant I’ve attended eleven interviews in person and taken two over the phone with an 85% success rate.

As an interviewer I’ve conducted over fifty in the past twelve months at a hire rate of 40%. According to my HR associate I have the most rigorous screening process as well as being the most difficult manager (out of the six of us) to impress.

I’m going to share what I’ve learned about the interview process through my experiences as an applicant, employee and employer. Some of these points may seem obvious and I really hope they are, but since each of us have access to different resources perhaps mine can teach you something new.

I suppose without context this blog might only appeal to me, which is fine, but then if I wanted to be the only person to understand it why would I do it online? Anonymity is useful for discouraging bias, but I personally find it a struggle to connect with an entirely unknown source.

Thirty after 30

A bucket list.

On 22nd August 2018 I hit 30 years of age!

  • Watched The Lion King, Wicked, Aladdin, Cats, LOTR, Guys & Dolls and HP The Cursed Child in London theatres

  • Participated and hosted in a German foreign exchange student program

  • Interrupted filming of the hollywood movie ‘Burn After Reading’

  • Played the clarinet in a local theatre orchestra

  • Did a public reading to over 100 attendees
