March Reading Wrap-Up 2019

It’s been another full reading month for me! I’m still not back to work, hopefully the camera going into my stomach this week will find out why. In the mean time I am DEVOURING my TBR. For the first time in forever I am below 300 at only(!) 280 books to be read.

As always it’s a mixed bag, I traversed fantasy, horror, crime, suspense and dystopia genres in March, here’s a little bit about them…

The Hungry Moon – Ramsey Campbell
Review to come as part of the Flame Tree Press blog tour, many thanks to Anne Cater for my copy.

Mystic River – Dennis Lehane
I loved this one. The character development was absolutely fantastic and the writing had me feeling like I was really there. I have Shutter Island lined up next and hold high hopes after the movie adaptation.

The Poppy War – R F Kuang
Whilst I did enjoy this book I fear it was a little over hyped by the time I got to it. It was refreshing to read about a culture different to my usual choices and I do recommend it, but it lacked a little something for me. Still, another hit on 2018 -Books I Meant To Read

The Waking Dark – Robin Wasserman
Very different to my first read by Wasserman, Girls On Fire. I thoroughly enjoyed this YA horror, you’ll find a full review here soon.

The Woman In Cabin 10 – Ruth Ware
I almost never use the word triggered, but this book applied. I was a little disappointed with the end too. Stick around for a full review on the blog next week.

The Gilded Cage / Tarnished City – Vic James
I’ve owned these since winning a Tor competition when I first joined bookish Twitter. After much pushing and prodding from other bloggers I finally relented and I’m so glad I did!

The Lost – Jack Ketchum
My first attempt at a Ketchum and it was… unsettling. The violence in this book is brutal and unrelenting, I was turning pages at lightning speed!

Children Of The Dark – Jonathan Janz
I’ve heard such great things about Janz, I was surprised to find I didn’t like this at all! I’m still debating whether or not to review it. I’ve signed up to The House Of Skin blog tour so maybe that will change my views.

The Bear & The Nightingale – Katherine Arden
Beautifully written, another fascinating look at a different culture. I struggled a little with the many variations of each character name to start but definitely worth reading.

Relics – Tim Lebbon
With the release of The Silence netflix adaptation upon us I thought it high time I read another Lebbon novel. Relics is fantasy and crime rather than horror, opening my eyes to the range in Lebbon’s brilliant writing.

Changeling – Matt Wesolowski
100% Perfection
A review would not do this justice. The third instalment of the Six Stories trilogy ends with a bang. So many emotions.

After The Green Withered – Kristin Ward
That’s right, I’m one of the 100 in The Ultimate Blog Tour managed by Dave at The Write Reads. If I haven’t convinced you to join the gang yet do it do it do it!

The Silent Patient – Alex Michaelides
Theres mixed reception online with this one. I think it’s all in the surprises, I did guess some of them but not til quite late on. There was enough mystery to make me read it in 24 hours.

Legendary – Stephanie Garber
Wow. Let’s not talk about how jealous I am of everyone else receiving Finale ARCs, I might cry. Another tick on my SERIES TF READATHON

Hopefully it’s not too early to say this but I think for the first time ever I will beat my GoodReads challenge! No changing my target at the last minute this year friends.
