February Reading Wrap-Up 2019

Look at this! Two wrap-ups in one month? That’s as many as I managed in the entirety of 2018. Yep, I know- I’m extremely inconsistent. So if you missed the first half of my month you can catch up with me right here: Reading Wrap-Up 18/02

If I’m being honest I had a little extra time on my hands this month. I’m still waiting for a diagnosis from my doctor and unfortunately we had to cancel our trip to Madrid this week due to my ill health. On the upside, I have a week off work with no obligations- of course I’m gonna read!

Including the six books I unashamedly bragged about in week 2 I managed a grand total of 14. I made a dent in my TBR for Fantasy/Fairy-tale February, struck some more titles from my Series-To-Finish hit list (Series To Finish 2019- Sign Up & TBR) and managed a few of last years backlist (2018 -Books I Meant To Read) Not bad for the shortest month of the year! Leaving me at a current position of… drum roll…

7 BOOKS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!

So here’s what I read:

The Woman In The Window- A.J.Finn

Due to revelations in the news last month I won’t be commenting on this book or reading/recommending any other works by A.J.Finn aka Dan Mallory.

The Lingering – SJI Holliday

I really enjoyed this one, in fact I’ve yet to come across any title under Orenda Books that I didn’t love. Ghosts, cults(?), witches and asylums- what more could you need?

Song Rising (The Bone Season 3)- Samantha Shannon

Everyone is a little pre-occupied with The Priory Of The Orange Tree right now, but if you haven’t tried out The Bone Season I desperately urge you to give it a go. This YA satisfies the secret Hunger Games fan girl in me, the plot is in no way the same but the writing is fantastic and oooh the world building!

To Kill A Kingdom – Alexandra Christo

A creative and dark re-telling of The Little Mermaid. I was worried this may be too young for me but I’m so glad my blogging pals talked me into it, I was blown away. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Uprooted – Naomi Novik

Another whirlwind re-telling, this time Beauty & The Beast. I was convinced by Dellybird’s review to pick this one up and I’m happy I did. If I thought I was a fan of re-tellings before this had me leaping to buy Spinning Silver and find out what else Novik has in store.

Providence – Caroline Kepnes

It was only a matter of time before I had to slink back to my old favourite genre. This horror was wonderfully unique, it’s my second Kepnes novel after reading YOU and already her dark and gritty writing style feels familiar to me, like an old friend.

Seed- Ania Ahlborn

The first book to give me nightmares since I started reading Goosebumps in the 90s! I think this one’s going to need a review all of its own. (Watch this space, or check out more on Ania here: Halloween Heroines; A Spotlight)

Aaaand speaking of reviews, I’ve taken the extra step and started requesting direct from publishers…

The Migration – Helen Marshall

My first book mail! Huge thanks to Titan Books I was sooo excited when this landed on my doormat. Check back for a full review on this one.

You may have seen me admit-I haven’t signed into Netgalley since around Halloween last year. I let it fall to pieces and I’m too scared to try and fit them back together! So instead this month as well as receiving my first ever physical book mail I signed up to two blog tours. I’m thinking I’ll feel much more accountable for reviewing these. 

Lets hope I can keep it up…
