They called us the Mercies, or sometimes the Boneless Mercies. They said we were shadows, ghosts, and if you touched our skin we dissolved into smoke …

Frey, Ovie, Juniper, and Runa are Boneless Mercies – death-traders, hired to kill quickly, quietly and mercifully. It is a job for women, and women only. Men will not do this sad, dark work.

Frey has no family, no home, no fortune, and yet her blood sings a song of glory. So when she hears of a monster slaughtering men, women, and children in a northern jarldom, she decides this the Mercies’ one chance to change their fate.

But glory comes at a price … Continue reading “Book Review; The Boneless Mercies – April Genevieve Tucholke”

Unfollow, Mute or Block?

Why I’m heavy handed with my social media settings…

Social media is a tricksy beast. It can be a wonderful source of comfort, companionship and support, or it can drag you down into a black hole of negativity. I firmly believe there’s a knack to using the tools at our disposal. Today I’m sharing my methods… Continue reading “Unfollow, Mute or Block?”

A nostalgic celebration of horror, friendship and many-tentacled, interdimensional demon spawn.
In 1977 the Blyton Summer Detective Club unmasked the elusive Sleepy Lake monster—another low-life fortune hunter who would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for those meddling kids.
By 1990 the former detectives are haunted by strange, half-remembered events that cannot be explained by a guy in a mask. Andy, the once-intrepid tomboy now wanted in two states, wants answers. To find them she will need Kerri, the former kid genius now drinking her ghosts away in New York with Tim, an excitable Weimaraner descended from the original canine member of the club. They will also have to get Nate, the horror nerd currently residing in an asylum. Luckily Nate has not lost contact with Peter, the handsome jock turned movie star who was once their leader… which is remarkable, considering Peter has been dead for years.
The time has come to get the team back together and find out what actually happened all those years ago. It’s their only chance to end the nightmares and, perhaps, save the world.

Meddling Kids had the perfect premise for my taste. I’d seen it described as a mash up of IT, Stranger Things & Scooby-doo, doesn’t that sound fun?

Three Bookish Things Tag

I first spotted this on Crystal’s blog Paper Royalty and it looked so fun I had to join in!

THREE READ ONCE AND LOVED AUTHORS

  • Christina Henry- I picked up Alice in 2017 and have auto bought everything she’s written since. I can’t tell you how excited I am for The Girl In Red
  • Robert Mcmammon- After seeing so many other reviewers raving about Boy’s Life I finally picked it up to read last year. Cue me searching and purchasing as much of his backlist as I could find. I’m going with Swan Song next time.
  • C L Taylor- I’ve got quite a few of her books lined up in my kindle now, the first I read The Fear last year and I’m looking forward to Sleep after many other trusted authors have been shouting about it on the Twitterverse.

2018 -Books I Meant To Read

In August last year I had my 30th birthday and left my long time career as a fashion retail manager, between these two major events I cashed in HARD on gift vouchers from my loving family and colleagues. I spent these entirely on books -obviously- nobody expected any less of me.

Suddenly my (already extremely long) TBR list was growing at lightning speed! This meant that many of the books I’d been looking forward to got lost amongst over fifty new purchases. Of course my monster TBR increased again over the festive period and I even reached the stage where I wanted for nothing! Upcoming releases excepted.

I’ve made it through the entire first month of the year with almost no purchases! That’s a first for me. Instead, I’m focusing on #SeriesToFinish and a backlist I’m quite certain would beat me in a fist fight.

Here are *just a few* releases I own but didn’t get around to reading last year… Continue reading “2018 -Books I Meant To Read”
