New Year Resolutions 2019

I’ve never been good with keeping New Year resolutions- mostly because I lose focus and forget what they even were to begin with! So I’m going to call these my GOALS instead, hopefully by sharing them here with you I’ll get the extra push I need to stick with them! Here goes..

**********

3 Blog Comments per Day

I’ve been slacking terribly over the last few months with my blog hopping. Mostly due to working in an office with no Wi-Fi. NO WIFI in an office! Can you imagine!? So where I used to spend half of my daily lunch hour perusing my WordPress reader I’m now limited to books only. So for 2019 I’m tasking myself to leave at least 3 comments per day Mon to Thurs. Whilst I do love interacting on Twitter, I’m losing engagement rapidly and missing some amazing content in my absence from blogs.

Series to Re-Read

Those who’ve been around here for a while may remember I pretty much never re- read books. In fact I wrote a whole post on it right here Do You Re-Read Books?
Well following my annual re-watch of Harry Potter last Christmas I’ve decided it’s finally time for my second read of the series. I’ve forgotten too much of the additional book content. Winky and the house elf committee are distant memories, ones I’d like to revisit. I have the whole series in hardback, ebook and audio so there’s a variety of options available to me.

As well as this, Stephen King’s Dark Tower series has been calling out to me. I despised the film adaptation and hold no expectations for the proposed mini series either, but the books are among my lifetime favourites. I haven’t read these since 2006 and more recently Wind Through The Keyhole reminded me how fantastic the world building is.
There are a few others due a re-read as I mentioned previously in #SixForSunday; Books I Want To Re-read but for 2019 I’m just going to focus on these two.

Stop Shunning NetGalley!

Oh NetGalley, I was so excited to begin our relationship earlier this year, but it turns out I am a total mood reader! If I have a time limit on reviewing a book it becomes a responsibility and that’s a problem- I read to escape responsibilities!
If I’m being honest I haven’t even logged in for over 2 months and my % score is abysmal. In 2019 I need to clear my backlist and only request something I think I would pay money to read, not just any title that catches my eye. Hopefully that will solve the slump and if not perhaps I should look at requesting specific titles direct from source instead of browsing NetGalley like a shop.

Commit To Blog Posts

I never have a shortage of ideas for blog posts, the amount of partially formed ideas and half written discussions I have saved in various devices is silly. I could probably schedule enough to fulfil my 2019 schedule if I actually finished and formatted them! I love the writing part but I am truly awful at making myself format posts and edit images.
This year I fully intend to finish as much of my half baked content as I can, maybe even all of it- including the lovely tags my fellow bloggers have me on.

Pack Lunches For Work.

Okay slightly off topic perhaps, but this is an important one! I work on an MOD site, meaning I have a security pass to get through the car park barrier and then again through a single man turnstile to access the site. It’s awkward and time consuming to leave during lunch break, (which honestly is a good thing since Mcdonalds is the nearest eatery!) With there being 3000 employees working on this secured site -which is the size of a small village!- we have several convenience shops, from my office it’s a 2 minute walk to the main one.
Convenience is expensive! If I want a sausage roll, bag of crisps and a drink that’ll be £5 please. FIVE POUNDS! Even more if I want a sandwich instead. That would be over £1000 a year if I went there every day! (and never mind the calories..)
So for gods sake Roxanne knock a few salads or sarnies together you lazy ass!

**********

Thus concludes my first five goals. If I can turn these into habits by mid-year I’ll re-visit and set myself some new targets.. lets hope this time I put my money where my mouth is!

Have you set yourself any goals for this year?

Do you have any suggestions on how I can develop mine?

Drop me a comment or leave your links..

  1. I’m coming to this one in 2021. So how did you get on, Roxanne.
I’ve moved on to audiobooks so my relationship with Netgalley is… Estranged.
