Halloween Heroines; A Spotlight

I recently listed my top ten favourite modern horror authors. I based my choices entirely on my own reading history and content opinion.
The very first thing to strike me as I created this list was;
THEY WERE ALL MALE AUTHORS.
Some blame should be apportioned to myself of course, but when I start reading from an author new-to-me I don’t take their demographics into account, I usually don’t even look. I mostly read about author bios after I’ve read their work, (catch my discussion on book diversity here).
Now to atone for my sins, here’s a little spotlight on some of the best current FEMALE AUTHORS of horror!

Ania Ahlborn
Born in Ciechanow Poland, Ania’s first novel, SEED, was self-published. It clawed its way up the Amazon charts to the number one horror spot, earning her a multi-book deal and a key to the kingdom of the macabre. Less than five years later, her work has been lauded by the likes of Publishers Weekly, New York Daily News, and the New York Times. – official bio

Lauren Beukes
‘Lauren Beukes is an award-winning, internationally best-selling novelist who also writes comics, screenplays, TV shows and journalism. Caroline Kepnes

Joyce Carol Oates
